Inactive accounts self-destructed
Telegram deletes an account that does not come online for its self-destruct period. The Telegram FAQ says 18 months is the default, and each user can pick a shorter or longer period in Settings. Once deleted, the account no longer counts toward your members.
Old channels feel this most: people who joined years ago and then quit Telegram disappear one by one, with no link to anything you posted.
Spam and fake accounts cleaned up
Telegram limits and blocks spam accounts, and fake ones get removed in cleanups. Every channel they sat in loses them the same day. Kun.uz reported one cleanup on 15 and 16 February 2020 that removed 3,945,878 fake subscribers from channels in Uzbekistan, citing Telegram Analytics.
Posts, pace or ads pushed people out
Too many posts, long silences, off-topic content or an ad-heavy feed make people mute first and leave later. Leaves spike on the days after the trigger.

When does Telegram delete inactive accounts?
Every account has a self-destruct period. If the owner does not come online for that long, Telegram deletes the account and it leaves every channel it was in. Drag to see which settings would already have removed a member.

Source: the Telegram FAQ says inactive accounts self-destruct after a period of time, “18 months being the default setting.” Admins never see a member’s setting, so you cannot predict who goes next.

Write down the drop
Note the date, the count before and after, and anything you changed that week: posts, ads, links, orders. You will need these dates in every later step.

In your channel, open the menu and choose Statistics. A one-day cliff points to a cleanup or a purchased batch. A slow, steady slope points to churn or inactive accounts.
