How to Promote a Telegram Channel or Group: 7 Routes Compared

How to get real Telegram members who join and stay
Short answer
Fix what a stranger sees before tapping Join: the name, photo, description, pinned post and latest posts. Then post on a rhythm you can keep, give every place you share your channel its own named invite link, and watch who leaves or mutes in Statistics. Bought members can add social proof at launch, but they do not create readers.
What counts as a real Telegram member?
Three very different things get called “real members”. Pick one to see what it does and does not change.
An organic member is a person who found your channel, liked what they saw and tapped Join on their own.
The only kind that comments, shares, buys and comes back. Everything in this guide is about getting more of these.
BTM Real members are active Telegram accounts delivered to your channel to raise its count. They are working accounts, not people picked for your topic.
Across 235 BTM orders, the median time from order to completed was 52 minutes. Useful as social proof, not as an audience.
BTM Mix members are a mix of active and inactive accounts. They raise the count, and post views move only a little.
Across 852 BTM orders, the median time to completed was 49 minutes. The cheapest way to change the number, and only the number.

What does a visitor see before tapping Join?
A public channel opens straight into its feed with a Join button at the bottom, and Telegram’s channels FAQ notes that new subscribers can see the entire message history. So the channel itself is the sales page. Tap any part of the screen to see what it has to do.

1 Photo
Readable at the size of a fingertip
In chat lists and search results the photo is tiny. Use one bold shape or two letters on a strong color. Skip small text and busy photos.
2 Name
Say the topic in words people type
Telegram’s FAQ says anyone can find public channels in Telegram search. A name like “Sourdough Weekly” is found by people who type “sourdough”. A clever brand word alone is found by nobody.
3 @username
Short, easy to say, close to the name
A public channel’s username becomes its t.me link. Pick one you can say out loud without spelling it, and keep it. If you rename it later, old links and mentions stop pointing to you.
4 Description
Who it is for, what they get, how often
Three facts in two lines. “Tests for home bakers, one recipe every Tuesday” sets an expectation people can check against the feed. A promise the feed doesn’t keep gives people a reason to leave later.
5 Pinned post
A start-here post, not an old ad
The pin sits on top of the feed for every visitor. Use it to say what you post, link your three best posts and state any rules. Refresh it when you publish something better.
6 Latest posts
The last few posts are your pitch
Visitors scroll a screen or two, not a year. Make sure the newest posts are your typical best, not a test message, a deleted-file notice or three ads in a row.
7 Web preview
See it the way a stranger does
For a public channel, t.me/s/ plus your username shows a browser version of the feed, with posts and view counts, to people without the app. Open yours in a private browser tab. Private channels have no such preview.
Is your channel ready for visitors?
Ten checks before you share the link anywhere. Your ticks are saved in this browser only.
0of 10
Start with the first look. Most visitors decide there.
How do you see where your members come from?
An invite link is a t.me link that lets people join. Besides the main link, admins can create extra links, name them, limit them by time or number of uses, and see which users joined through each one (Telegram blog, February and November 2021).
One link per place, named after the place
In the channel’s settings, open the invite links and create a new one for each profile, partner or community. Telegram then lists who joined through each link. Your public @username link is one link for everyone, so it can’t tell two places apart. A named link can.
After two weeks, the forum link that brought almost nobody tells you to stop spending time there. That is the whole point.

An approval step for links that need it
Turn on Request Admin Approval for an extra link and every joiner sends a request that an admin approves or dismisses after seeing the public profile. It suits private channels and communities where quality matters. The cost: some people won’t wait, so don’t use it on links where speed matters.
Offline? Turn the named link into a QR code
Telegram can turn any invite link into a scannable QR code. Name the link after the poster, menu or event first, so the QR code is tracked like any other source.
Which places to share your channel in is a separate job. See how to promote a Telegram channel.
How often should you post to keep members?
There is no official number. What keeps people is a rhythm they can predict and a volume their notifications can bear. Slide to your plan.
Daily habit
Good for tips and news. Keep a similar time each day and send minor posts silently.
Send without sound. Hold the Send button to deliver a post with a notification but no sound (Telegram blog, August 2019). Save the sound for posts that deserve it.
Schedule it. Write when you have time and schedule posts so the rhythm holds on busy days.
Post when people read. Channels with statistics get a top-hours graph that shows when subscribers are reading.
Why do people mute or leave a Telegram channel?
These are the common triggers, each with its fix. Tap one to see where it shows up in your numbers. For a member count that is already falling, read why Telegram members drop.
people leave within days of joining. In statistics, compare the Followers graph with the dates of your off-topic posts.
the Mute graph rises and the share of subscribers with notifications on falls, while the member count looks fine.
a jump in people leaving right after the first post following a break.
leaves cluster on ad days, and views on those posts are lower than your usual.
few shares. Shares per post are in the post statistics.
a wave of leaves soon after you added a batch of contacts.
What do Telegram channel statistics tell you?
Channel statistics are Telegram’s built-in reports for admins. The developer documentation lists these graphs, among others. Each tile says what to look for.
Growth and Followers
Joined (blue) against left (red), day by day. A jump in joins with no change in views is what bought or unwanted members look like.
Mute and notifications
The share with notifications on. Falling means you post too much or too loudly.
Top hours
When your readers are online. Post just before the peak.
New followers by source
Where new subscribers came from. Pair it with your named invite links for the full picture.
Views by source
Views from forwards, other channels, links and search, not only from subscribers.
Languages
If it doesn’t match your posts’ language, your sources are off.
Who gets statistics? Only channels above a minimum size. Telegram’s developer documentation says the limit is a server-side setting and doesn’t publish it. Telegram’s own channel tour says more than 500 subscribers. Until then, use the joins list on each named invite link and the view counter on every post.

Do boosts help you keep members?
A boost is a vote of support that a Telegram Premium user gives to a channel. As boosts add up, the channel levels up and unlocks features (Telegram API docs, Telegram blog, September 2023).
Boosts don’t add members. They give you tools to reach the members you have, such as stories in their story feed. Ask your most loyal readers, and don’t buy them.

When does buying members help, and when doesn’t it?
We sell members, so here is the honest version. Bought members change how the channel looks to the next visitor. They don’t change who reads it.
1,246orders at BTM since the first one in December 2019, 1,245 completed
58.6%of those orders came from buyers who had ordered before
48 minmedian from order to completed; 76% done within 3 hours
From BTM’s WooCommerce records, read 25 October 2026. No orders were placed in 2024 or 2025; sales resumed in April 2026.
Your answer
Answer the three questions to see whether buying fits your case.
Where it helps
- A new channel with good posts and a near-empty counter that makes visitors hesitate.
- A launch day, when you want the first organic visitors to find a channel that already looks alive.
Where it doesn’t
- More readers, comments or views per post.
- Sales, ad income or sponsor deals, which buyers judge by views per post. Adding members without adding views lowers that ratio.
- A weak storefront. Visitors still see weak posts, whatever the count.
Every BTM order needs only the channel or group link, never a password, login code or admin rights, and a person checks each order before it starts. Products: Real members ($6 per 1,000), Mix members ($2 per 1,000) and Post views for one post. To look first, try 50 free members.
How do you get your first 200 real members, step by step?
A plan for a brand-new channel. It uses only Telegram’s own tools.
Before you share
Set up the storefront
Pick a plain name that says the topic, a short @username that matches it, a photo that reads at small size and a description that says who the channel is for, what they get and how often.
Publish before you invite
Post several of your best typical posts first, then pin a start-here post, so the first visitors land on a living feed.
Launch week
Invite people you know
The owner can add the first 200 subscribers from contacts. Ask only people who would really want the topic.
Make one named invite link per place
Create an extra invite link for each profile, community, partner or flyer and name it after that place.
Share where the topic already lives
Post the right named link in places where people already talk about your subject.
After two weeks
Read the results after two weeks
Check how many people joined through each link and, once you have statistics, the Followers and Mute graphs.
Keep the rhythm and refresh the pin
Keep posting on the same rhythm, drop sources that bring no one and update the pinned post with your best recent work.

Key takeaways
- Real members are people who chose to join. Everything else changes the count, not the audience.
- A public channel’s feed, description and pinned post are the sales page; fix them before you share the link.
- Give every place you share your channel its own named invite link, and Telegram shows who joined through each.
- Keep a rhythm people can predict, and send minor posts without sound.
- Watch the Followers and Mute graphs once your channel has statistics.
- Buying members can help a new channel look alive. It never replaces readers.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get real members on my Telegram channel?
Make the channel worth joining before you share it: a clear name, @username, photo and description, a pinned start-here post and a few strong recent posts. Then share it where your topic is already discussed, give every place its own named invite link, and keep a steady posting rhythm so the people who join have a reason to stay.
How can I get more Telegram subscribers for free?
Invite people you already know (Telegram lets the owner add the first 200 subscribers), share named invite links in your other profiles and communities, swap mentions with channels on a related topic, and use QR codes offline. BTM also offers 50 free members as a one-time look at its service, but those raise the count only and come with no refill.
How do I grow a Telegram channel organically?
Organic growth means people join because they chose to. Fix the storefront, post on a rhythm you can keep, track which sources bring members with named invite links, and use Telegram statistics (once your channel qualifies) to see when people leave or mute. Then do more of what works and drop what brings no one.
Are bought Telegram members real people?
It depends on the product. BTM Real members are active Telegram accounts and Mix members are a mix of active and inactive accounts. Neither is a group of people who picked your topic, so they raise the number on the channel, not the number of fans.
When does buying Telegram members make sense?
Mostly at launch, when a near-empty counter makes visitors hesitate. A small package can add social proof while your storefront and content do the real work. It does not make sense if your goal is views, sales or ad revenue, because those depend on people who chose to follow you.
How do I see where my Telegram members come from?
Create an extra invite link for each place you share your channel and give it a name. Telegram shows which users joined through each link. Channels that have statistics also get a New followers by source graph.
When do Telegram channel statistics become available?
Statistics appear only for channels above a minimum size. Telegram says in its developer documentation that the limit is set on its servers and does not publish the number. Telegram’s own channel tour says more than 500 subscribers. If Statistics shows up in your channel menu, you have them.
Why do people mute or leave Telegram channels?
The usual reasons are posts that do not match what the description promised, too many notifications, long silences followed by bursts of posts, too many ads, and content people can find elsewhere. The Followers and Mute graphs in channel statistics show when it happens, so you can match it to what you posted.
